Scott & White Internal Medicine Residency Program

Central Texas patient population includes a rapidly growing area of more than 2,000,000 people, and we serve as a tertiary referral center for the Southwestern United States. The Scott & White system has more than 1.8 million outpatient visits, 57,000 hospital discharges and 51,000 surgical procedures per year. This allows for an immense diversity of pathologic conditions during your three years of training.

Ambulatory Care

Designed to train future primary care physicians and subspecialty physicians who will spend a significant amount of time practicing in the office setting and treating chronic diseases.

Curriculum

Our program will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to care for patients as a general internist or as a fellow in any competitive fellowship program.

Call Schedule

Designed as a quality educational experience with attention to scheduling allowing time for reading and studying.

Clinical Rotations

About one-third of the rotations are in the general medicine inpatient ward or outpatient clinic. During the rest of the residency program, residents will have time to rotate through each one of  the subspecialties of medicine.

Conferences

Morning report is our most popular conference, bringing high-yield case presentations and discussions.  The daily noon conferences encompass a diversity of topics and presentations. Resident lunches are provided.

Simulation Training

Simulation offers the resident opportunities to rehearse and master many different health scenarios and provides experience in crisis management and planning.

Research

All residents are required to participate in a "scholarly activity," a research project with a senior staff physician or a basic science project.
