Family Medicine Chairman Welcome
The Scott & White Department of Family Medicine has been serving the healthcare needs of Central Texans since 1978. In most of our clinical sites, we provide family medicine care to patients of all ages. One of our goals is to educate our medical students in this broad specialty and to have them share in the challenges and rewards of family practice. We now have more than 130 family physicians in the department who practice and teach the principles of family medicine to medical students, residents and other healthcare professionals. Our commitment to excellence in patient care and the education of medical students and residents keeps our faculty at the top of their game practicing cutting-edge medicine.
We offer a comprehensive four-year program for students of family medicine. The academic affiliation we have with Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine enriches the learning environment in our 600+ bed primary teaching hospital in Temple, Texas, as well as in the regional clinics. This relationship with a major university positively impacts the clinicians in their office practices where many of them regularly have medical students accompanying them.
We also have an active division of research, headed by a full time director of research. Our practice based research network (PBRN) has 70+ physicians, nurses, family medicine residents and medical students involved in family medicine research activities.
